My Disney ICP Experience
«Flower gleam and glow, let your power shine, make the clock reverse, bring back what once was mine…» Rapunzel

Yesterday I was extremely excited as I got to work with the most popular character in the Magic Kingdom, Rapunzel. Unfortunately i got a bit disappointed as my job was very  easy, maybe even a little bit boring. I got to talk to a lot of guests though and control the line when their frustration was rising. You see here in Disney we have a 101 code for safety when there is lightnings and thunders. If the park is 101, no characters or attendants are to come out of their off set location as it is not safe. Yesterday was a thunderstorm day, and Rapunzel didn’t come out for 2 sets in a row, which put her behind by 2 hours. The guests were not happy at all, but thankfully no one got hurt or hit. :P

I got another GSF, i think I’m at 4 now. I don’t even know what i did, but I’ll take it :) ! Except I just realized that on 2 of them i forgot to write my name and so they won’t even go into my folder :( Oh well, I’m planning on getting more :P

Tonight we are heading to Magic Kingdom again, because there is a new Memories light show on the castle for summer and we wanna go see it !

Tomorrow I will be off again  and its JS’ bday so a bunch of people are heading to typhoon lagoon (since it’s the last day it’s going to be free for us) and then we are heading to the Tyrex restaurant, which looks very cool. I have never been there and apparently it’s something you have to see, I’ll make sure to bring my camera :)

Crystal Palace !

I have spent the past three days working at the Crystal Palace, which is one of the busiest restaurants in the world. It’s always fully booked and very chaotic at times. There’s a gazillion servers running around with trays and guests walking to the buffet and coming back to their places. In the middle of all that, you have four characters, big characters, going around the restaurant making sure they see each and every table. Andddd on top of those, there’s me, walking around the characters, making sure everything is under control ! I always always feel like I’m in the way but I’m starting getting use to it now. There’s a very specific rotation that the characters have to follow throughout the night and I had to learn it pretty quickly in order to be able to coordinate the whole thing. Tonight will be my third night there and I’m feeling a little bit more confident :) I’ve been told a couple times that I’m doing a great job and so I’ll just keep doing what I do :) I even got another GSF yesterday ! yayyyyyy! Makes me feel so special ! I don’t really get why I got one, I didn’t go above and beyond, I pretty much just did my job but hey , I’ll take it ! :P

One of my friends got 17 of those GSF’s last year and I’m definitely trying to beet that number !

I also just got my schedule for next week and thank goodness I work wayyy more hours than this week :) I’ll make a little bit more money ! I got 2 shifts with Pluto at the entrance of the park, which should be interesting, 2 shifts with daisy, at the entrance as well, one with goofy where the pirates are, one with buzz in Tomorrow land, and of course another Crystal Palace ! Tomorrow I’ll be with Rapunzel though, which should be very nice too :)

My dad will be arriving here on June 9th and I’m very happy because i only work until 3h15 so i have time to go back home and take the bus for the animal kingdom lodge before he arrives :) I have to meet him there because the hotel needs my Disney ID in order to let him have the room keys, since we got a pretty big discount on the room (60%) :) Can’t wait to see someone from home, I’ll show him around everything ! I wish mon amour was there too though I miss him very much ! :( We get to talk a bit but not enough for me :P

Give Kids the World

«Give Kids the World» is an association that greets the «Make a wish» kids, and give their parents some time for themselves on their Disney vacation. Last night I volunteered to go help over at the «Give Kids the World» base and had a lot of fun, it was an amazing experience. I was the first one there (of all the volunteers) to get picked by a little girl named Gabriella. I called her cowgirl all day as she had a very pretty cowboy hat. We played together for an hour, then we had diner and finally it was time for the «Kids Night Out» talent show (where the parents were invited). I was so happy when i learned that Gabriella was going to sing at the talent show, and I even got to go with her sing on stage since she was a little bit shy at first. It was truly an unforgettable experience and I’m planning on going back at least one more time this summer. I will never forget the little girl who sang «Just a spoon full of sugar… from Mary Poppins» she was insanely amazing with all the facial expressions and little dance. Also, the magician and his disappearing trick was absolutely hilarious !

On the other hand, tonight I worked at the Town Square Theatre in the Mickey room C and had a blast. I love being with characters and since i wasn’t in the boring loading room, it was a great shift :) Minnie and Mickey were really nice to me they even let me take a picture with them in my uniform :) Love you girlsss !!

Ohana means family, family means nobody gets left behind. Or forgotten. -Lilo and Stitch

I’ve had about three days of real work so far and I’m starting to really like what I do, but yes I do miss my family a little bit.

On Sunday I got to work at the Town Square Theatre, in the loading room for Mickey and Minnie and it was fun but not quite what I’d expected. It was really repetitive and easy. I need a challenge to be happy with what I’m doing and so I was kind of sad after my Sunday shift. It was also a night shift, so not as busy as it would be during the day and  I didn’t get to be an attendant for Mickey (which would’ve been better), I was only loading a room.

Thank goodness though, I had the best work day ever on Monday ! I was working as an attendant for the new Disney character, Merida, from the movie Brave that is coming out on June 22nd. We were three attendants that day at the Fairytale garden and it’s one of the busiest spots in the Magic Kingdom ! It was a lot of fun. I actually got to control the lines, talk to the guest, count them with a clicker and call base to let them know how many guests we were letting in each set! I was very nervous at first but i quickly got the hang of it and it was an awesome day ! One of the other attendants even told me to go watch the main street «Shake it, Celebrate it» parade while working. I worked with great people that day, they were all very nice. I even got to be attendant for Alice in Wonderland and the White Rabbit for one set (close to the teacups) because they needed someone else!

At the end of that day I even got a GSF (Guest Service fanatic) which are given out to cast members who go above and beyond while working. I really gave it my all on Monday and it payed off. This GSF will stay in my record which is very important for the Disney company. Hopefully i get other ones like this :)

Yesterday I went to Typhoon Lagoon, I was really tired but I still had a lot of fun. We also went to Epcot to watch the fireworks while drinking a refreshing slushy Margarita from Mexico !

It’s very hot outside today and so I’m very glad I’m not stuck outside in the heat in my ugly work costume :P I did have to wake up early though to go get my Social Security Number. But we got back from there at around 9h and then I took a nap. I was extremely tired as yesterday night i decided to watch gossip girl until 2 am. :P At 4h I will have to head to the Commons, because I registered in the «Give Kids the World» Volunteer work. Hopefully it goes well!

Some Animal Kingdom fun :)

Some Animal Kingdom fun :)

First day of work !

Yesterday was my very first day of work at the glade with princess Tiana and I loved and enjoyed every minute of it ! Even though I am a bad judge for line ups and getting the character off set on time (which is very important for Disney), I think I’m good with guest interaction. I also have a hard time knowing where everything in the park is, I really have to go walk around my park alone someday to figure everything out. But all in all, the day went by really quickly because i was having so much fun ! I made a little girl dance and I met some guests from Quebec :)

At night i was really tired though, so i decided to go to Steph’s apartment and we just watched the movie Tangled. I obviously fell asleep on it, I always do :P But it was nice to just relax for one night. The day before we had had a crazy party by the pool for the CP’s from Vista Way. It was really fun but then the next day (work day) I was extremely tired, and I don’t think it’s a good idea to party like that every night, so I’ll probably slow it down very soon. I even injured my leg a bit, playing volley ball, as I crashed into someone else and it kind of twisted my leg :S

Today I’ve got the day off. I’ll be meeting Stephanie later and we will be heading for the Animal Kingdom :) I haven’t been to that park yet, I think it’s the only one I didn’t even set a foot in, so it shall be interesting and very fun :)

Day 4 of training !

Yesterday was a fairly good day. I left for work at 8h and came back at around 5h, exhausted once again! This job is wearing me off, it is soooo demanding but I love it ! We worked with Mickey, Donald and the two country bears today! The bears had extremely big costumes and one of the bears almost fainted :S It was really hot out, even I was sweating buckets. I also, took my Mickey off set 10 minutes earlier than I should have, I don’t have a very good judgment when it comes to lines I guess :( I will really have to get use to it. And turning people away is the worst, I feel so bad when I do it, but I’ll have to grow some back bones soon, because i will be doing that 5 days a week now ! Working with the characters is great though and finding story lines for when they leave is very fun, challenging at times, but fun !

I’ve been going to Magic Kingdom for two days in a row now, to see the great show called «Memories». If you haven’t seen it already you really have to ! It is absolutely amazing ! The castle changes colors and there’s pictures that appear on the castle and different patterns, it’s really gorgeous ! Then we saw wishes, the fireworks. We rode space mountain, pirates, and splash mountain ! And I might be going back this afternoon to actually try to learn my park. There is so much going on over at MK that it’s hard to keep track of what is where, where the restrooms and smoking spots are and from which entrance i should come out of the tunnels when i am doing a specific set !

Today I had to do my assessment, which is like a test and it officially gives you your title. I’m officially a character attendant of Disney World which is pretty awesome ! :) I had like 4 mistakes in mine, but I’m still learning so I’m not stressing too much about that !

There’s so much questions still that I have to ask on Friday it’s really stressing me out. Just finding who my captain and manager will be for the day, will be a challenge. We have about 8 managers and even more captains than that in the attendant department. I will be dealing with so many people at once !

Today the plan is to wash my apartment, as it’s extremely dirty, get some money out of the ATM, if i can find one, go to Walmart, then to Cast Connection, and off to the MK tunnels. Busy day coming ahead ! But hey I’m in Floridaaaaa !!! :)

I’m excited to learn how to do my job, and to be able to create magic moments for the guest after that ! I think I will learn a lot from this experience :) Also, the people down here are amazing, were all becoming good friends and it’s really nice ! :)
